Mexborough Community Partnership was formed in September 1999, by a group of local community activist who wanted to make sure that Mexborough and it's residents were supported during a period of economic and social recovery.
Grants were obtained from the Single Regeneration Budget which enabled the Partnership to employ a full time manager and later administration staff and event co-ordinators. Starting in a rented office at Mexborough Library the Partnership soon outgrew the space and moved into Montague Chambers, where residents could call into to see members of staff and raise issues relating to their community.
Staff also worked on a number of projects including Planning for Real, setting up a community recycling service offering employment opportunities to ex-miners and long term unemployed residents, making improvements to the High Street, creating a community allotment complete with disabled access and sensory garden. The staff also worked with Doncaster Council Neighbourhood Team and other local agencies to have a Summer Gala and Christmas Carnival.
During 2005 Mexborough Community Partnership bid for funding to purchase and refurbish "Times House" the old Walters Photographic Studio on Dolcliffe Road which had fell into a serious state of disrepair. The building was totally gutted and transformed into a state of the art community Resource Centre.
Presently the Resource Centre houses the Partnership Office, Green Gables Outreach Team, Heritage Inspired and DMBC's Opportunity Centre. We run various courses on a rolling programme in partnership with Dearne Valley College, where you can come along and brush up your skills on a wide variety of subject in an informal setting. We also hold public meetings for PACT (Police and Communities Together) where residents are invited along once a month to air their views on policing matters in their area. Once a month we also have a ward councillors surgery where residents are invited to drop in and speak to their ward councillor in confidence.
